A manufactured fiber composed of regenerated cellulose, as well as manufactured fibers composed of regenerated cellulose in which substituents have replaced not more than 15% of the hydrogen's of the Hydroxyl group. Manufactured to compete with cotton media's, originally suppose to be a less costly fiber, but is now more expensive. JFPI manufactures (2) types of rayon; FDA (FR), and industrial (R).
Effects of Acids/Alkalis:
Similar to cotton. Hot dilute or cold concentrated acids disintegrate fiber. Strong alkaline solutions cause swelling and reduced strength.
Typical Applications:
Chemical compatibility similar to cotton. Dilute alkalis Mineral oils Organic solvents Petroleum oils Vegetable oils Water
